A great start to this year's watercolor workshops in Saigon..... we started with a corporate booking in which 6 visiting Adidas footwear designers from Germany came to learn more about the tradition of watercolor on silk painting. Their supervisor, Adam, also took part in the workshop, and all all left with an original paintings to take home and remind them of Vietnam.
Watercolor on silk is much more challenging than the technique used for painting on paper. Not only do you have to control the flow of water, you must also control the absorption of the paint into the silk..... it's not easy! But, these designers lived up to their creative titles and painted beyond the provided compositions that we started them off with. Each designer receives a stretched silk canvas with the beginnings of a painting.... lanterns from Hoi An, or lotus flowers. The photos reveal some of the unique ways each painter approached the design.
